Open the same game on two to four phones. RoadPlay automatically looks for other phones nearby also running that game, using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi directly — no internet connection, no router, no room code. Once it finds them, it connects automatically in a couple of seconds.
That permission is what lets your phone discover and talk to other nearby phones running RoadPlay — it's the same underlying technology as AirDrop. It's used only for finding and connecting to other players nearby; RoadPlay never uses it to reach the internet.
Yes. Every game in RoadPlay also has a pass-and-play mode for one device, so you can hand the phone back and forth between two to four players without needing a second phone at all.

If it's still not connecting after a few seconds, tap Try Again on the search screen — it retries automatically in the background too.
RoadPlay tries to reconnect automatically the moment a connection drops, and shows a brief "Reconnecting…" indicator while it does. If it can't reconnect within a few seconds, you'll see an option to return home. Bluetooth-only connections are more sensitive to distance and physical obstructions than Wi-Fi — keeping phones within a few feet of each other and Wi-Fi turned on (even offline) both help.
